【Echo Tech】 Techniques of making plastic models using ultrasonic cutter.

Have you ever made plastic models before?

Progressed from old age, plastic models has evolved that even amateur could make high quality models easily, by just following manual. In this case, “easy” means that people could make models without tools except just one cutting tool to cut parts from runner. Each parts has made in high quality initially, and could connect those easily.

However, major of modelers might have thought, that want to make models in original design.
Also, beginner modeler might face trouble in each work steps.

Our Ultrasonic cutter solves all those problems in one-stop. We will explain you how is it useful, base on my experience.

Cut plastic like butter!

Cutting tool is necessary to cut parts from runner.
We heard from many modelers that they released from stress of cutting many small parts by using ultrasonic cutter. Comparing with “Nipper”, ultrasonic cutter has said,
1. Doesn’t need power for cut
2. Work speedy
3. Cut cleanly

If I could choose only one tool for making plastic model, I would choose Ultrasonic cutter ZO series.

Repair broken plastic parts by “Welding”.

Ultrasonic cutter is not a tool just for cutting.
Ultrasonic vibration melts plastic and it able to connect.

Ultrasonic cutter rescues you from depression of breaking parts.

Cannot connect parts? Make it easy by cutting parts!

Plastic models has connecting part, and sometimes it’s hard to assemble due to connecting part’s discord. For such a problem, ultrasonic cutter may be your solution.

(Case 1) Hard to connect several connection parts in once.

The picture is plastic model, “Aichi prefectural government building” which I made this month. It took about 1 hour for total making this model, and most hardest work was to connect several connection parts(insert pillar to the hole) in same time. To insert pillar in hole, I needed to adjust each pillars angle properly to each corresponded holes and insert in same time. It was harder than think to do. Later, I thought if I could do this work faster, I would finished making this model within half of an hour.

By progressing model assembly, model’s angle and balance eventually changes from standard, and parts will get harder to connect. At that time, it will be easier to connect by cut off with ultrasonic cutter some connecting parts. If number of connecting parts reduced, angle adjustment will be easier. To use this technique, you have to think carefully which parts to cut off, otherwise parts will lose capability of connection.

(Case 2) Want to reinforce connection parts.

When you are making models to your original design or adding new parts, you might need reinforcement on connection part for support.

For this subject, “Welding” technique is useful.
By making fine cuts on connection parts, plastic will melt and it reinforces its connection power.

I made the processing on same model. Appearance become bad because I did too roughly.
When you do same processing, be careful not to do too much.

Cut and stick!

Literally, written on title, ultrasonic cutter is capable for doing both opposite works.
